Hello! I’m Louise Thomason, a 30-something freelance writer. I live in the Shetland islands in the far north of Scotland with my husband Kris and our toddler, Soren.

I decided to start this blog as a creative outlet, really. I love writing, and while on an extended maternity leave (aka trying to find work that would fit in with my new circumstances) I started putting my thoughts down on paper… or on screen. And as a way to document life and explore ideas.

Things I love: music, coffee, running (occasionally), supporting women, cooking, taking pictures. A good conversation and warm socks. I love the idea that people and experiences are more important than things; I’m trying to live a life that is true to that.

The name Girl In The North Sea came from an old blog, which I had briefly when I was actually still a girl, living in the north sea (not literally, of course) and chose because it semi-references one of my favourite songs. So I kept it.

When I’m not doing the mama thing, I write features and create content. I’m a regular contributor to Shetland Life magazine, The Shetland Times and Shetland News.

I also co-run the Shetland Sling Library, a babywearing hire and advice service.

If you’d like to get in touch about work or anything else, I’d love to hear from you. Drop me a line at mslouisethomason@gmail.com.
